Porlock Herd 100

Porlock Herd 100 - The Coldicutt Family

Owned by the Coldicutt family, Porlock Herd 100 runs on Porlock Hill, Exmoor National Park
Herd 100 was established by Bryn Owen, who was the former owner of Westcott Farm, near Porlock. The Porlock Herd 100 has been managed by the Coldicutt family since 2006.

Recent stallions running with the mares have been Hawkwell Great Gatsby and Helmantor Hannibal. The current stallion is Farleywater Zeus whose first Porlock Herd 100 progeny were born in 2016. The fillies are being retained in the  herd and the colts are being sold.

The herd runs on Porlock Hill, Bromham Plain and Hawcombe Head and enjoys spectacular views across the Porlock Vale, Bossington Beach and Bristol Channel to Wales.

The ponies do have to cross the busy road, which traverses Exmoor from Porlock to Lynton, so please do take care when driving across the moor, to check for the ponies and the sheep.

Local wildlife photographer, Maureen Harvey, makes regular trips from Porlock up onto moor to follow and photograph Herd 100 and she has developed a fascinating photographic diary of the herds progress over the past few years. Maureen has been privileged to see foals born, and has got to know the youngsters, their habits, seen them play and captured some beautiful images.
