The Exmoor Pony Project

The Exmoor Pony Project was founded by Nick and Dawn Westcott in 2013 with an aim to give some of the free-born Moorland Exmoor foals a good start in life. The project supports, encourages and promotes the Moorland breeders and herds of Exmoor National Park - as well as owners and enthusiasts. We work with Exmoor farmers/herd owners who share like-minded objectives in wanting to safeguard the future of pedigree and purebred Exmoor ponies and encourage good handling, welfare and opportunities for the ponies.

Books

MEPBG member Dawn Westcott has written three best-selling real-life stories about moorbred Exmoor ponies. All books include real-life stories and information about the ponies of Exmoor and their environment and management - along with extensive insights into understanding, socialising and training them. And their quest for survival.
Wild Pony Whispering centres around the story of starving, wild-born orphaned foal Monsieur Chapeau and his rescue and struggle to be properly recognised and registered as an Exmoor pony. Wild Stallion Whispering follows the journey of wild-born stallion Bear from unwanted foal to world champion in horse agility. And Wild Herd Whispering continues the stories of these captivating Exmoor pony characters, and many more, to explore what we can learn from herd dynamics and energy - and what ponies can teach us.
Dawn's first fiction book, Rowan The Exmoor Pony, was published in A5 softcover in 2022. Written as an illustrated ballad, told in Rowan's own words, this book is ideal for children and adults alike.

Exmoor National Park

Exmoor was designated as a National Park in 1954. Since then, the co-ordination of work to achieve National Park purposes in the area has been undertaken by local government and since 1997 by a free standing Exmoor National Park Authority. Exmoor National Park Authority decides what measures to take to achieve the two National Park purposes;
